Welcome to The Rural Pluralist

This is it. The very first edition of the shiny newsletter coming from your Caswell Democratic Party! We're not exactly sure where all this will lead, but we're excited to find out. And having another way to communicate with the Caswell Dems community can't be a bad thing, right? We'll be aiming to get this out to you at a minimum of once each month so we can let you know about upcoming events, relay needed information about candidates and races happening in Caswell, and let you know how to find out more of the details you wanna know. If there's new and pressing things to communicate you could see The Rural Pluralist a little more often than monthly, but we promise we won't clog up your inbox!

Why The Rural Pluralist? Well, we think Democratic values often come down to pluralism – the notion that we humans are all a bit different and that learning to not simply live together, but prosper and thrive together is the best sort of goal for We, the People...

America is and always has been a nation that contains a multitude, a pluralistic society that chose as one of its mottoes E Pluribus Unum, "from many, a unity". It is fundamental to what it means to be a Democrat that we affirm that multiplicity and that we fight (and hard!) against those who seek to name one way of being American supreme above all others. Too many failures of this nation's great promise have their roots in that soil – in the rejection of pluralism.

Finally, it seems even more appropriate to focus on pluralism after the extremely disappointing & difficult month this has been for the American Experiment and it's promised ideals of a multi-cultural, multi-racial democracy. The Supreme Court's decision in Louisiana v. Callais has removed the last mask from the GOP's decades-in-the-making embrace of a new Jim Crow era – with a raft of southern states rapidly enacting racial gerrymanders to disenfranchise voters of color, disempower Black candidates, and erase the Democratic party from state legislatures and the US Congress. Committing to pluralism – and standing firmly in opposition and resistance to this resurgence of open hatred and naked resentment – is the most patriotic and American thing we can do. It's a fight we can and must engage ...together.

Y'all means ALL, y'all.

Do us a favor, would you? Tell your friends, family and community about this newsletter. CASWELL DEMS DOT COM to everybody!)

IT’S ALL HANDS ON DECK TO TAKE BACK OUR COURTS FOR DEMOCRACY

In 2026, we must elect champions for our courts up and down the ballot, and our statewide candidates: re-elect Justice Anita Earls (NC Supreme Court) , re-elect Judge John Arrowood (NC Court of Appeals), re-elect Judge Toby Hampson (NC Court of Appeals) , elect Judge Christine Walczyk (NC Court of Appeals).

We’ll rally the troops for their campaigns in style with Justice Allison Riggs, Leader Sydney Batch (NC House Caucus), Leader Robert Reives (NC Senate Caucus), and NCDP Chair Anderson Clayton.

Join us in Caswell County, one of 40 parties happening simultaneously across the state, linked together for one big Zoom to hear from our special guests.

Come out on Saturday, May 23rd at noon to meet with local elected Democrats – like Sheriff Tony Durden – and other candidates in the coming election. Let them know what's important to you and get to know your party!
